Others meanwhile, brush it off as if it's no big deal...

These are all incredibly negligent & irresponsible stances on what is the single biggest health issue of the 21st century...

That's not an exaggeration...

In recent years, The World Health Organization has classified "stress" as...

"The Epidemic Of The 21st Century"

And I have to argue with them on this one...

Approximately 84% of people reporting feeling "stressed" at least 1 day in a typical week...

(& 18% of people reporting that they feel stressed constantly; every hour of every day of every week!)

Workplace stress alone is also said to contribute to over 120,000 deaths each year (that's in the US alone!)

(that's more than drug use, fire, violence / conflict & all natural disasters combined!)

According to the CDC, 7 people die worldwide from "stress" every 2 seconds...

These statistics are incredibly sad, but are not at all surprising... especially, when you look at the lifestyle & daily habits of most people...

Let's consider the average person's day...

Living In A Busy, Chaotic & Stressful World!

It usually starts with a startling alarm clock that rings right next your ears to wake you up...

(often, mere hours after you finally managed to fall into that deep restorative sleep you need to feel fully refreshed the next day... as you probably had to work late, or you spent the night binge-watching tv, mindlessly scrolling social media... or many hours tossing & turning unable to sleep...)

In the morning, maybe you hit snooze once, twice or a few times when you wake up... (or, maybe you don't...)

Then, perhaps you check your phone, your messages, emails & check into social media... (which already starts to cause stress!)

Either way, anxious to beat the traffic on the way to work, you give very little time for yourself to get dressed & mentally prepare yourself for the day...

Most likely, there's traffic on your way (translation: more stress!)...

There are also, let's just call them "inexperienced" drivers, who further stress you out as they drive completely irresponsibly...

Then, those great tunes that you were jamming to on the radio are interrupted by the news, which is report on that school shooting that happened the other day, the rape & subsequent murder of a the young girl in the local area, as well as the natural disaster somewhere off the coast, that wrecked havoc on the land... 

(note: the news & mainstream media has a strong negativity bias & consuming it is proven to cause not only stress, but leads to poor mental health overall!)

And all of this is before we've even entered what most people consider the most stressful part of their day: work

(again, 120,000 people die every hear from workplace stress, in the US alone!)

"You Need To Hustle 24/7"

On top of this, we are taught that if we want to "make our dreams come true", we must work (or, "hustle") hard...

That if we want to "get ahead" (or even to simply "keep up" in these ever-changing, rapidly-shifting times)... we must move fast & not waste a single second on anything...

And so, we do exactly this...

We might come in early, or we stay late...

We eat in a hurry at our desks... or in between meetings... or simply skip lunch altogether!

We work with people (i.e. bosses, co-workers, clients) who we don't like & also cause us a lot of stress...

Nowadays, we then take our work home with us (with the majority of people nowadays reporting to still checking work messages & emails even after working hours)...

When we finally get home after a long day, wanting nothing but a moment to just relax, but too often, we don't get it...

There Is Still So Much To Get Done... (Like Always!)

First, as soon as you walk in, you find a pile of bills you don't want to deal with, but know that you must... (another big source of stress & also the leading cause of arguments between married couples - finances.)

Oh, and you also have to go to the shops to buy Karen (who you don't even like, but common curtsy dictates) a birthday present...

And you also have to prepare dinner, take out the trash, walk the dogs, fix the sink, mow the lawn, clean out the car, the list goes on & on...

Or maybe you did nothing on your to-do list & instead crash on the couch & binge-watch Netflix - leading to feeling of guilt & more stress as the house gets dirt & your to-do list continues to elude you...

Finally, you crash onto your bed to get some sleep...

But, despite how physically exhausted you are, your mind is now racing...

You're stressed & worried about that meeting at work next week, or those upcoming bills that you're going to have to pay, or that story that you heard on the news, or whether this is what your life was supposed to look like...

This keeps you up into the later hours of the night, unable to fully sleep... which then affects the next day...

And the cycle continues, 5 days a week...

(On weekends, you attempt to de-stress & finally relax after a long week, but more often then not, something comes up that only makes you even more stressed)...

The Vicious Cycle Continues...

At every turn, we sacrifice or we neglect our physical, mental & emotional health (specifically by accumulating stress!)...

And we hope that it never catches up to us...

Of course, deep down, we know that it will...

And so, while we were working so hard to build the future we desire, or simply handling all of the challenges of the present, life as we know comes to a screeching halt...

You suffer from a "heart attack", a stroke, an accident of some kind (all caused, in large part, due to the affects of stress.)

And it's over!

Again, based on data from the CDC, 7 people die worldwide from "stress" every 2 seconds...

Just in the time you've been reading this page so far, approximately, 700 people have died from "stress"...

And as you read that last sentence, 14 more have died...

And 7 more right now...

When you add everything up, stress comes out on top as the single biggest killer (albeit a silent one!)...

The Primary Cause Of Disease?

When you look at the stats, the leading cause of death (killing 18.56 million people; or entire population of the Netherlands for comparison) in the world is "cardiovascular disease"...

But, what's causing that cardiovascular disease?

Consider that for a moment...

Well, a big (correction: huge!) part of it is... stress!

The research is pretty conclusive on that...

Chronic stress leads to inflammation in the arteries, plaque buildup & other risk factors for cardiovascular disease...

Next on the list is cancer, killing a further heartbreaking 10.08 million worldwide...

Together with 'cardiovascular disease' at the top spot, that's about 28 million people dying pre-maturely every year (or, for comparison, more than the entire population of Australia)...

Again, what causes 'cancer'?

As the research proves, stress is a huge factor here too...

See, we may not think of "stress" as that big a deal on it's own but when you consider what it leads to, we quickly realise how big a deal it really is...

Cardiovascular disease, cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, Alzheimer's - in my extensive research, I'm yet to find a lifestyle disease that does NOT link back to stress in a big way...*

Put another way... lower stress & your risk of every single lifestyle disease goes down significantly!

Stress is also often the cause of weight gain & obesity (which also contributes to disease, worse wellbeing & leads to premature death)...

More specifically, stress contributes to that stubborn fat in the areas that you least want it (e.g. belly fat or visceral fat, which is the most dangerous fat that is stored around your internal organs such as your heart & liver)...

This is all because fat storage is both a survival & defense mechanism...

Under stress, what your body does is designed to do (in order to protect your most vital organs) is it stores fat around those areas...

And so, while doing thousands of ab crunches will help you to lose weight, what it WON'T do is help you get rid of that stubborn "belly fat"...

For that, you need to learn to better manage stress...

Here's another (perhaps even more) fascinating insight...

Bad Habits Lead Back To Stress.

It's "stress" that's also the primary trigger for almost all the "bad habits" that wreck havoc on our health & overall wellbeing...

Every year, millions of people seek to quit smoking, drinking, drug use... but, stress rarely enters this conversation...

People smoke, for example, in large part as a way to alleviate stress (as when you're smoking, you're also starting to breath deeper)...

Stop the stress & the desire for the cigarettes often goes away too...

Same with alcohol...

A lot of people drink alcohol as a way to "drink our problems away" after a long & stressful day at work, for example...

Marijuana use... it's the same story.

We also bite our fingernails, we pick our hair, develop OCD... "stress" is the root cause!

"Stress" is also the "emotional" in "emotional eating"... & the cause of our unhealthy food craving...

Health, Fitness, Career, Relationships — It's All Affected By Your Stress Levels.

It's pretty clear to see that stress negatively affects every area of your life...

From your health & fitness... (as mentioned, it ruins your health, causes weight pain, drains your energy, contributes to life-threatening disease, is the trigger for playing out bad habits, etc)...

To your work, career & success as well...

This is because, as dozens of studies conducted over many decades prove... working memory, focus, concentration, attention, efficiency, mental clarity & overall cognition (which are critical to doing high quality work that you can get paid for handsomely) are all significantly impaired by stress!
